The Golden State Valkyries are bringing basketball excitement to Bay Area libraries. In partnership with the San Francisco Public Library and the Alameda County Library, the team is launching Valkyries-themed library cards and limited-edition card decals; a launch event will be held on the 16th, with general availability for the public starting on the 17th.
The San Francisco Public Library will host the launch event at the San Francisco Main Library on the 16th from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Fans will have the first opportunity to obtain the new Valkyries-themed physical library cards. Starting the 17th, these co-branded cards will become available at various San Francisco Public Library branches.
Opening remarks are scheduled for 2:15 p.m., featuring San Francisco City Librarian Michael Lambert and Yoyo Murphy, the Valkyries’ Senior Vice President of Community Affairs. Distribution of the co-branded cards to the public is expected to begin at 3:00 p.m.
In the East Bay, the Alameda County Library has collaborated with the Valkyries to design two limited-edition library card decals. On the 16th from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., the two organizations will hold an event titled “Celebrate Reading, Basketball, and Community Pride” in Albany to unveil the designs, allowing attendees to pick them up early.
Unlike the direct issuance of new cards in San Francisco, residents in Alameda County do not need to replace their existing library cards; they simply choose their preferred Valkyries design, peel off the decal, and apply it to the front of their current card, while their original library account and card number remain valid. Officials noted that due to limited supplies, each library card is eligible for only one decal, meaning patrons cannot obtain both designs at once.
The library stated that this collaboration aims to connect the Valkyries fan community with reading, encouraging fans to explore the books and other resources offered by the library alongside their support for the team. Officials have positioned the initiative as a community partnership that combines “reading, basketball, and community pride.”
The inaugural events at both locations on the 16th are open to the public, though advance registration is required. Co-branded Valkyries cards and stickers will be available at branches across both library systems starting on the 17th, while supplies last.
